Sensory deprivation sounds scary. Why would I want to do that?

It has been said that we find the best version of ourselves when we engage in silence. Free of external stimuli and the force of gravity, the mind functions at peak levels and the body can fully rest and heal. Taking a nap or relaxing bath at home is nice, but nowhere near as impactful and therapeutic as floating. Knowing that, the more fitting question might be, “Why would you not want to float?”

Can I float with another person?

While that sounds fun, the cabins are not big enough and it detracts from the unique personal experience.

Can I listen to music while I float?

Currently, no. We are working on the logistics to incorporate music into our cabins. While we encourage you to try floating in silence for a session, or at least part of a session, music and other sounds can certainly enhance your experience.

What happens if I panic?

You are in total control of your environment at all times during a float. The light button is within arm’s reach and you can always stand up and exit the float cabin.

What should I wear?

You are welcome to wear a bathing suit but we encourage (and actually prefer) that you float naked. A bathing suit can be a physical distraction, interfering with sensory expansion, and may also carry bacteria.

How do really big and really small people float in same amount of water?

Actually, it’s not about the amount of water, but rather the saturation of Epsom salt in the water. Through years of research, floating pioneers have determined that 800 pounds of Epsom salt per 150 gallons of water is a universal that supports bodies of all shapes and sizes.

Will I drown if I fall asleep?

People safely fall asleep while floating all the time. The body’s capacity for buoyancy coupled with the high salt concentration makes drowning virtually impossible.

Will I get salt in my eyes?

While your face remains out of water while you float, it’s always possible. Each cabin has a spray bottle with fresh water, just in case.

Can I float if I have my period?

Yes, but please use a tampon.

Are there any age limits for floating?

We welcome floaters of all ages! We require in-person parental consent for children under the age of 18 on the first visit.

Can I float if I have a health condition?

While floating can be helpful for a broad range of health conditions, please consult your physician first. Written clearance from a physician is required in cases of epilepsy or narcolepsy.

Can I float after I eat?

While eating a light snack or meal before floating is recommended, eating a heavy meal may result in physical discomfort that could detract from your experience. Excessive caffeine intake is also discouraged.

Do I have to pay in advance?

Yes, but only because it is in your best interest. We find that getting logistics out of the way in advance allows you to more fully relax and remain in the “zone” even after your float.

How sanitary is the water?

The water is cycled through a micron filter at least four times between sessions and treated with a UV light system. Epsom salt itself also has sanitizing properties.
